The free upgrade launches September 29 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a native Nintendo Switch 2 edition arriving on the same date.

CD Projekt lists improved environment, NPC and monster textures, substantial foliage work, reworked lighting and rendering, and ray tracing improvements. It also promises better performance.

“Improved ray tracing” is still a description, not a benchmark

The current official material does not break down which ray-traced effects are changing compared with the 2022 update. There are no new PC presets, GPU requirements or frame-rate comparisons attached to the announcement.

Console targets are similarly absent. CD Projekt has not yet said which resolutions or frame rates the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series builds will use.

That leaves optimization claims open until technical documentation or independent testing becomes available.

Remastered is also touching systems that sit outside the renderer

Combat animation has been revised, Geralt is meant to close distance more smoothly, and an adaptive camera changes its framing according to the fight. Traversal and Roach handling are being updated too.

Enhanced monster behavior and a completely redesigned progression tree make this a broader engine-and-gameplay revision than a texture pack.

Cross-platform mods raise more technical questions than the trailer answers

CD Projekt is advertising cross-platform mod support and has explicitly confirmed custom content on Xbox Series X|S. Mods can cover quests, equipment and balance changes.

What has not been released is the technical policy behind that feature: script limitations, package formats, approval requirements and exact platform parity are still unknown.

Compatibility with the existing PC ecosystem will also matter because Remastered changes progression, animation and other systems that mods routinely alter.

Switch 2 is getting its own build

Nintendo's new hardware receives a native Remastered release rather than merely running the previous Switch version. Owners of the original Switch game can claim the Switch 2 edition for free.

CD Projekt says it will be a separate download with its own Home-menu icon. Resolution, frame-rate targets and the specific graphical feature set have not been disclosed yet.

The 2027 Songs of the Past expansion will use the Remastered improvements as its technical baseline. Yigsoft is co-developing Remastered, while Fool's Theory is working with CD Projekt RED on the expansion.

September 29 is confirmed. The revised PC requirements are not.
