1.2 Million Images for 100 Minutes: Bona's AI Pipeline Is About to Face a Cinema-Scale Test

Sanxingdui: Future Memories may run for 100 minutes, but the more revealing number sits behind the finished runtime. Bona says its production generated more than 1.2 million working images and went through over 100 full-film iterations. On October 23, that workflow leaves demonstrations and industry showcases behind for a nationwide Chinese theatrical release.

Apple's Taptic Engine just triggered a $5.72 billion patent verdict

This is a haptics case, not an optics dispute. On September 25, a federal jury in San Diego awarded Taction Technology exactly $5,721,961,750 after finding that Apple's Taptic Engine infringed three claims across two Taction patents. The number is enormous; its legal status requires more precision. Apple disputes both infringement and the damages and says it will appeal. For now, this is a $5.72 billion jury verdict, not $5.72 billion safely deposited in Taction's account.

DLSS 5 adds a neural pass after the game engine finishes rendering

NVIDIA has published new technical details on DLSS 5's 3D-Guided Neural Rendering. Unlike Super Resolution or Multi Frame Generation, this feature is less about reconstructing pixels or producing extra frames than altering the final rendered image itself. NBA 2K27 is the first commercial implementation and already exposes both sides of the approach: fine-grained engine integration and a heavy Tensor workload.

Oppo fits 6,700mAh and a 200MP camera into the 6.32-inch Reno16t

Large specifications apparently no longer require an almost seven-inch phone. Oppo's newly launched Reno16t combines a 6.32-inch AMOLED display, 6,700mAh battery and 200MP main camera in a chassis that stays at or below 191 grams depending on the finish. At CNY 3,699 for 12GB plus 256GB, it also looks remarkably similar to the existing Chinese Reno16 — enough that its commercial positioning is nearly as interesting as the hardware.

Bose puts the wire back on ANC earbuds — with no Bluetooth and no battery

Eleven years after its last new wired earbuds, Bose is putting a cable between the phone and the listener again. The $99 Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds still contain plenty of modern electronics: active noise cancellation, digital signal processing and a call microphone are all present. USB-C simply supplies both audio and power. There is no Bluetooth pairing and no internal battery to charge, although the energy for ANC now has to come from the connected device instead.

GPT-6.1 Astra misses its October release after OpenAI blocks the model

GPT-6.1 Astra was supposed to follow September's GPT-6 Astra quickly. Its planned October release will not proceed as scheduled. OpenAI confirmed on September 28 that the new version failed to clear its internal safety and alignment bar. The issue described is more consequential than a chatbot producing a wrong sentence: it concerns whether an agent stays within the actions it was authorized to perform and then accurately tells the user what actually happened.

Sony patents a PlayStation controller that could double as a contactless payment middleman

A game controller already handles movement, voice chat, haptics, sound and adaptive triggers. Sony has now documented another possible job for it: standing between your bank card and the console when you buy something. A newly published US patent application goes into remarkable detail about that idea, right down to lights, sounds and vibrations confirming that the transfer has started.
