The seven-minute Gamescom demonstration was captured on PlayStation 5 Pro. Dune: Awakening itself launches for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22.
Base PS5 gets a 60fps Performance Mode
Funcom says Performance Mode on the standard PlayStation 5 runs at 60fps with dynamic resolution.
The studio has not published the exact internal resolution range, so the footage alone cannot establish how aggressively that resolution changes during demanding scenes.
Quality Mode instead runs at 30fps.
PS5 Pro does not introduce a higher frame-rate ceiling
Performance Mode on PlayStation 5 Pro is also specified at 60fps, while its Quality Mode remains at 30fps.
That means Funcom is not advertising 60fps as a Pro-exclusive benefit or offering a newly announced 120fps mode. The more powerful console's advantages have to emerge elsewhere in image quality and stability.
Both PS5 models use upscaled 4K output in both modes.
That wording is worth preserving. Funcom is not claiming that all four combinations render internally at native 3840 x 2160.
The Gamescom video should not be mistaken for base-PS5 footage
Funcom explicitly identifies the seven-minute demonstration as PS5 Pro capture.
For standard PS5, the firm information is currently the performance target and rendering approach: 60fps with dynamic resolution in Performance Mode, 30fps in Quality Mode, and 4K output through upscaling.
Independent testing of the shipping console build will be needed to establish frame-time consistency and practical internal resolutions.
Xbox still has an unanswered Series S question
Funcom has previously said Xbox Series X targets 60fps in Performance Mode.
The new Gamescom breakdown focuses on PlayStation, however, and does not provide the same detailed specifications for Series S.
That makes Microsoft's smaller console especially worth watching. Funcom had previously acknowledged that adapting Dune: Awakening to Series S presented a development challenge.
That old comment is not evidence of poor final performance. Until Funcom publishes the shipping specifications or independent analysis becomes possible, the Series S version remains an open technical question.
Console work extends beyond rendering
Funcom has also rebuilt controls and interface elements around gamepads, an important change for a survival game filled with building tools, inventory management and vehicle interaction.
The console launch includes the new full single-player structure, Book One's conclusion and more than a year of PC additions and revisions.
Broader cross-play between PC and consoles is confirmed but will arrive after launch, with no date currently attached.
Upscaled 4K is only half the specification
A reconstructed 4K output says little by itself about the image that enters the upscaler. Dynamic internal resolution and the quality of the reconstruction will determine how clean Performance Mode actually looks in motion.
For now, the meaningful trade-off is simpler: base PS5 players can choose the responsiveness of a 60fps target or the 30fps Quality Mode.
Gamescom establishes that Funcom intends to make its full Arrakis simulation run at 60fps on the standard PS5. September 22 will show what the machine has to give up to maintain it.
