Nintendo Switch 2 owners can choose between Performance and Fidelity modes. The former targets 60 frames per second, addressing one of the most obvious compromises of earlier portable NBA 2K versions.
Visual Concepts has also built platform-specific extras around Switch 2. Motion-controlled party-style activities include three-point shooting, dunk contests, Blacktop games and Pop-a-Shot, while GameShare and full mouse input are supported.
DLSS 5 starts its public life inside a basketball game
On PC, the headline is considerably stranger. NBA 2K27 is the first commercial title to ship Nvidia's DLSS 5 technology, labelled DLSS Neural Rendering in the graphics menu.
The system uses neural processing together with engine data to infer parts of the final image, targeting areas such as lighting and material detail rather than merely scaling a lower-resolution frame.
For now, the option is officially limited to GeForce RTX 50-series cards and GeForce NOW Ultimate. It remains optional.
Neural rendering has a substantial render cost
Early independent measurements make one point very clear: this is not free image quality. Enabling the neural rendering layer can significantly reduce raw rendering performance before conventional DLSS upscaling and frame generation are applied.
That creates an unusual relationship between the technologies. DLSS became familiar as a way to trade reconstruction for higher performance; the new neural rendering component deliberately spends GPU resources to enrich the image, then other DLSS features can be used to recover frame rate.
Whether that trade is worthwhile will depend heavily on resolution, GPU headroom and how visible the improvements are during normal play rather than static close-ups.
Switch 2 and RTX 50 tell opposite stories
On Nintendo hardware, Visual Concepts is chasing a straightforward target players can feel immediately: 60 FPS. At the high end of the PC market, NBA 2K27 is being used to introduce a rendering technique whose visual ambition currently comes with a heavy computational bill.
Both versions still share the broader gameplay overhaul, including revised collisions, shot contests, defensive positioning and ProPLAY animation work.
NBA 2K27 launched worldwide on September 4, 2026.
