The 60fps figure is a ceiling

Konami lists a maximum of 60 frames per second for MGS4 on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2. Its own documentation warns that frame rate can vary according to effects, cutscenes and hardware conditions.

PS5, PS5 Pro and Series X can reach 3840×2160 for both internal rendering and output. Series S tops out at 2560×1440.

PC is listed at up to 3840×2160 and 60fps. Steam currently asks for Windows 11 64-bit, 16GB of RAM and 34GB of available storage, with an SSD recommended at minimum and required in the published recommended configuration.

Switch and Switch 2 are not close equivalents

The original Switch version runs at a maximum of 30fps. Handheld mode is 1280×720, while docked output can reach 1920×1080.

Switch 2 raises that limit to 60fps. Handheld mode can reach 1920×1080, while docked play can use an internal resolution up to 2560×1440 and output as high as 3840×2160.

That distinction between internal resolution and output matters. The Switch 2 version is not rendering MGS4 internally at native 4K in the published docked specification.

The Switch 2 box does not contain the whole game

Konami lists roughly 30.3GB for the complete Switch 2 package: 25.9GB for Guns of the Patriots, 4.1GB for Peace Walker and about 0.3GB for bonus material.

Its physical edition is a Game-Key Card, so the software has to be downloaded before first play. Internet access and sufficient internal or microSD Express storage are required.

The original Switch cartridge handles the data arrangement differently, with part of the package stored physically. A full digital installation is listed at roughly 22.2GB.

Peace Walker keeps online play, MGS4 does not

Peace Walker's HD Collection version supports 60fps ceilings on the newer hardware except original Switch, which remains at 30fps.

Its CO-OPS missions support two to four players and Versus Ops reaches six. Cross-platform multiplayer is generally unavailable, although Switch and Switch 2 can connect to one another.

Guns of the Patriots does not include Metal Gear Online. Whatever technical work was required to move the campaign away from PS3, Konami has not recreated that multiplayer service as part of Vol.2.

One Unreal Engine footnote is easy to misread

Konami notes that the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database uses Unreal Engine. That statement applies to the database application, not to the MGS4 game itself and not to the rest of Master Collection Vol.2.

The actual MGS4 changes are described more narrowly: higher internal resolution, a higher maximum frame rate and configurable controls.

Ghost Babel rounds out the package with much smaller technical additions that suit its Game Boy Color origin: pixel-perfect display, filters, rewind and control customization.

The collection launched on August 27 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Switch and Switch 2.
