The same game spans path tracing and Switch 2

Resident Evil Requiem is technically interesting because its platform range is unusually wide for a visually ambitious current-generation release.

At one end, PC supports path tracing. At the other, Nintendo Switch 2 reconstructs an extremely low internal resolution into a surprisingly convincing image.

PS5 Pro is the console showcase

Digital Foundry is especially positive about the PS5 Pro version. Its 60fps ray-tracing mode combines strong reconstructed image quality with richer global illumination and reflections.

A higher-frame-rate mode trades away some of that ray tracing and does not remain locked at 120fps, but offers a substantial responsiveness gain.

Base PS5 and Series X retain most of the presentation

The standard consoles reduce several premium effects but remain visually strong. Digital Foundry reports generally stable performance close to 60fps with occasional drops in heavier scenes.

Character rendering remains one of RE Engine's clearest strengths.

Series S takes harder cuts

Series S lowers internal resolution and removes or simplifies several rendering features, including the more advanced strand-based hair system.

The result remains functional but noticeably weaker than the larger consoles.

Switch 2 is an excellent DLSS case study

Digital Foundry reports internal resolutions that can fall to around 540p docked and 360p in portable play, reconstructed upward with DLSS.

Despite that extremely low base, image quality compares surprisingly well with Series S in several scenarios. The Switch 2 version targets 60fps and even retains ray-traced global illumination, while cutting geometry detail, hair quality and reflections.

TechRadar similarly finds the conversion impressive while making clear that the PC presentation remains dramatically stronger.

PC scales much further

Capcom supports DLSS 4 and path tracing on compatible hardware. Indirect lighting, wet materials and reflective interior environments benefit most obviously.

Steam's minimum specification is comparatively modest: 16GB RAM, GTX 1660 6GB or RX 5500 XT 8GB and mandatory SSD storage. The official target is 1080p at 30fps using upscaling from a 640p internal image.

Recommended hardware rises to an RTX 2060 Super or RX 6600 for a 60fps target, also using upscaling.

PC usability has some odd regressions

PC Gamer notes that mouse sensitivity is hidden under character-specific camera submenus rather than the expected input settings.

The PC release also lacks an FOV slider and does not gracefully support every unusual display resolution.

Early patches addressed rendering issues

Capcom's March update fixed progression blockers, path-tracing performance problems and visual defects caused by upscaling.

The launch was technically impressive rather than technically flawless.

Scalability is the real achievement

RE Engine does not produce an equal image on every machine, and Series S clearly demonstrates where compromises become substantial.

What remains impressive is the range: path-traced PC, strong 60fps ray tracing on PS5 Pro and a genuinely portable Switch 2 version built around DLSS reconstruction.
