BlackSpace makes a surprisingly strong first impression on PC
TechRadar ran Crimson Desert at native 3440x1440 on its maximum Cinematic preset using an RTX 4080 Super and Ryzen 7 5700X3D, reporting roughly 70fps or more in demanding scenes without upscaling.
That result is particularly notable because the game is simultaneously pushing dense vegetation, long draw distances, cloth simulation and elaborate combat effects.
The PC version exposes plenty of controls
DSOGaming's performance analysis confirms a broad graphics menu and support for DLSS 4.5 and FSR 3.1. It also finds some unusual scaling behaviour depending on GPU and settings, so Crimson Desert is not uniformly elegant across every configuration.
Distance is BlackSpace's best trick
Pywel's strongest technical quality is the amount of world that remains visually present at once. Mountains, forests and settlements form convincing horizons instead of behaving like isolated arenas.
TechRadar also highlights water simulation and cloth physics. Game Informer, despite scoring the game only 7, still describes the open world as a clear technological achievement.
PS5 Pro handles the ambition well
Pre-launch technical impressions of the PS5 Pro version were strongly positive, with multiple graphics modes and a convincing high-frame-rate experience. Sony's store also lists the game as PS5 Pro enhanced.
Base PS5 exposes harder compromises
The launch-period picture on standard PS5 was more complicated. TheSixthAxis observed softer image quality, more visible pop-in and substantial compromises between its modes.
Digital Foundry's early findings, reported by Push Square, advised against Performance mode at the time because frame rate could fluctuate from the high 30s to 60fps while rendering at 1080p. Balanced and Quality offered more stable targets around 40fps and 30fps.
Patches arrived almost immediately
Pearl Abyss moved quickly after release. Game Informer's updated Xbox Series X impressions following a major patch describe noticeably smoother controls and menus, even if Kliff retained some deliberate heaviness.
TechRadar likewise notes that several softlocks found during review had already been addressed around launch.
The storage requirement reflects the scale
Steam lists 150GB of available space and DirectX 12 for the Windows release. The current Mac requirements begin at an Apple M2 Pro, M3 or M4 system with 16GB of unified memory.
Crimson Desert is consequently not a lightweight game, even if its PC optimisation is substantially better than the visual complexity initially suggested.
Platform matters
On a sufficiently powerful PC, BlackSpace is one of the game's strongest achievements. PS5 Pro preserves much of that impact.
Base PS5 demonstrates the other side of the equation: world density, image quality and high frame rates cannot all remain untouched when the hardware budget is smaller.
