LEGO PlayStation set 72306 uses 1,911 pieces and measures over 6 cm high, 26 cm wide and 19 cm deep when assembled. Sony and LEGO unveiled it at the September 3 State of Play, with the original-style wired controller included in the build.

At €159.99 in Europe, it is positioned as an adult display model rather than a small gaming collectible.

The interaction is mechanical, not electronic

There is no functioning PlayStation hardware inside. The physical details nevertheless go beyond a static shell. The controller plugs into the front of the brick-built console, while the circular Open and Power buttons have functional mechanisms.

LEGO also recreates the memory-card and controller areas on the front panel and the large circular disc lid on top. At near life size, those small structural details can remain visible without becoming tiny decorative suggestions.

That is probably the practical advantage of choosing scale over compactness. The model can preserve the PS1 as an object people handled rather than merely copying its silhouette.

Inside, LEGO chose games rather than components

Opening the console does not reveal a brick interpretation of the original optical drive or motherboard. The internal space instead hides two removable dioramas based on Gran Turismo and Ape Escape.

The Gran Turismo module contains a miniature track and cars. Ape Escape gets a small island scene with its recognisable monkey helmet and interchangeable red or blue light.

That makes set 72306 a hybrid of product replica and software retrospective. The exterior concentrates on Sony's hardware design; the unused internal volume becomes a place for references to the games that helped define the platform.

October 1 comes with an asterisk

The first availability date is October 1, 2026. PlayStation Direct will sell the set in supported countries including France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK, while LEGO Insiders receive early access on the same day.

General availability through LEGO.com, LEGO Stores and selected retailers begins October 4. Pricing is €159.99, £139.99 or $179.99 depending on region.

The less glamorous specification remains 26 by 19 cm. Anyone buying it as shelf decoration may want to measure the shelf first.
