CONTROL Resonant made its first public playable appearance in Cologne. Remedy's earlier full gameplay reveal ran on PlayStation 5 Pro; the Gamescom material focuses less on raw specifications and more on how Northlight is being used to support a highly mobile, deformable combat space.

The game launches September 24 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Sony also lists the PS5 release as PS5 Pro Enhanced.

Walls need to function as floors

Remedy's Gravity Anomalies change orientation rather than merely decorating an area with floating objects. Dylan's Shift ability lets him adapt to those spaces and establish a new walking surface.

The Collective boss encounter demonstrates the system under pressure. Tentacles are attached to the arena walls, so Dylan has to change gravity and move across those surfaces while the boss fires projectiles and summons additional enemies.

Traversal and combat are operating on the same geometry.

Dylan's movement kit is built around leaving the ground

Aerial dashes, double jumps and temporary levitation give Dylan enough movement to cross gaps and reach surfaces that would be irrelevant in a more conventional third-person action game.

Earlier footage showed roads hanging upside down and roofs becoming vertical bridges. Once Dylan can reach a transformed surface, the game allows him to move across it as his new ground plane.

That makes the environmental distortion a systems problem as much as an art-direction problem.

One weapon produces several different animation profiles

The Aberrant is a transforming melee weapon rather than the firearm-centric Service Weapon used by Jesse in the original Control.

Hammer, Blades, Scythe and Fists have already been revealed, with different forms changing range, speed and combat purpose.

At Gamescom, Dual Blades were shown alongside a Drill transformation that specializes in Falter damage. Falter functions as a stagger layer underneath health; filling its meter exposes an enemy to execution.

Those weapon states operate beside telekinetic powers, elemental attacks and airborne movement rather than replacing them.

Removing block and parry protects combat velocity

Remedy experimented with parrying but removed it. Resonant has no block either.

A perfect dodge briefly slows time, giving players a defensive response without requiring them to remain planted in front of an enemy.

Health pickups also come from defeated opponents. Low health therefore creates pressure to find another kill rather than retreat to a safe corner.

The city is a collection of authored zones

Manhattan is divided into large, distinct areas rather than presented as a literal one-to-one urban recreation.

Remedy says these zones contain story missions, optional encounters, environmental challenges and world events, while avoiding the icon-heavy approach associated with some open worlds.

The studio also confirmed at Gamescom that recognizable Manhattan atmosphere matters more than reproducing specific real locations.

There still is no final console performance table

Remedy previously identified its first extended gameplay capture as PlayStation 5 Pro footage, and Control Resonant is officially PS5 Pro Enhanced.

What remains absent is a complete breakdown of internal resolution, graphics modes and frame-rate targets across PS5, PS5 Pro and the Xbox Series consoles.

The Gamescom demo should therefore not be used as a substitute for shipping-build performance analysis.

It does reveal the workload Remedy is designing around: open urban zones, rapidly changing orientation, heavy debris interaction, supernatural projectiles and a protagonist expected to transition between ground, walls and air without breaking the flow of a fight.
